Hong Kong Gardeners Club at the Fat Fox

Hong Kong Gardeners Club at the Fat Fox

HKGC was started by Sarah Parham and Abbie Eales in August 2008 to give the indie/electro/alternative kids of Portsmouth something cheap and fun to do in these bleak economic times. The premise was simple- get everyone involved and make the club feel like a house party.

Named after the Siouxsie and The Banshees song, The Hong Kong Gardeners Club now operates with many DJs and helpers which lends it a nice co-operative feel. HKGC started with a music manifesto- that they wanted to play music they didn’t hear in other clubs and introduce some local bands and artists to a wider audience. They have local artists designing our flyers and website, film-makers showing their great opuses on the big screen and great support from all the local bands.

HKGC have since moved more into putting gigs on than purely being a DJ night and have good connections now with other promoters in Southampton and Brighton which help to bring in bands from out of the area as well as some of Portsmouth’s finest bands playing and DJing.

From tomorrow (9th April) the Hong Kong Gardeners Club are starting a Thursday night residency at The Fat Fox in Albert Road and will be continuing their mix of live music and DJs from 8pm until midnight. Be sure to make it down and get involved.

For more information check the flyer and also check www.myspace.com/thehongkonggardenersclub for information on who is playing and when plus listen to some of the songs too.

P.S. HKGC have been given a stage at Southsea Fest to curate this year…we’ll be bring more information on that and the event as a whole soon…
