PORTSMOUTH & SOUTHSEA'S No.1 for ARTS, CULTURE & LIFESTYLE

Quality Street

They’re tasty, tasty, very, very tasty.  As you may have seen recently after strolling down Exmouth Rd in Southsea and as was reported earlier by Claire, the row of terraced houses adjacent to Albert Rd have had an injection of colour.

Local resident and street artist James Porter had the vision to redecorate the row of houses along with Tim Hobbs who had the idea to incorporate it with International Peace Day which is on 21st September this year.  Each house colour represents a country which is experiencing unsettled times, mainly through warfare and political disagreement.

The project has attracted huge interest from Strong Island readers and was today featured on page 35 of The Sun, as well as being featured on the regional news for television.  If you get a chance tune into ITV at 6.25pm for the live broadcast.

You can get in touch with James by email at jimboporter@yahoo.co.uk

I like this – Lived in Southsea for 15 years until a year or so ago, and I hail from Cliftonwood in Bristol where multicoloured houses are (used to be) a unique event. I’ve also been to Valparaiso in Chile where it’s also a treat. The Albert Road area of Southsea is like a mini-Camden a few years ago. Quirky, non-mainstream shops and a real soul. Long live.
