To mark the decommissioning of HMS Ark Royal, there will be a parade through the city centre on Saturday 22nd January from 11:15am – 12 noon, from Paradise Street to the Guildhall Square. The parade is a chance to say goodbye and to thank the crew and the ship from the people of Portsmouth, her home port. The ship has been a great servant to the British Navy since 1985 and has seen much action across the globe including the Bosnian war and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

@ jay raynor, yes we all hate war but this ship was at the forefront of our sea defence, why do idiots like u constantly bad mouth our military? these people who serve on this “war machine” put thier lives on the line for YOU! i’d like to see u serve your country you f***ing idiot!! everycountry needs a defence force, and if memory serves this ship was going to help civilians like u get home during the ash cloud crisis, or have u conveniently forgotten that? i bet u don’t even wear your poppy with pride on remembrance week, even all those brave men and women died keeping our country free in times of adversity, just remember jay u idiot, these ppl defend u and me! so therefore the ark and any other ship/plane are not war machines but defence machines, i hope this comes back to bite u in the arse!

Hey Jay, do you recognise the ship alongside Ark Royal there? Well, if you don’t then I’ll let you into a secret. It’s a Russian ship keeping close watch on the Ark (on which i was serving at the time), we were also in Collision with one of them because the idiot captain crossed our bows when we were flying jets at night. That moron wasn’t related to you by any chance?
