Karl Rudziak‘s solo exhibition focuses on his portraiture places and will seek to demonstrate how the artist prepares to paint portraits. The exhibition includes frame examples of initial sketches and support work as well as curatorial comment on what makes great portraiture and how it becomes distinct from lesser portraits. Reference will be made to the importance of the artist and subject relationship and how this is critical in developing a finished piece which reveals something of the subjects soul rather than a means of simply capturing an image.
One of the most striking pieces involves John Portsmouth Football Club Westwood. This self titled painting is of spectacular quality and depicts someone who is known and loved locally. Anyone who’s visited Fratton Park in the last twenty years will be well aware of John, and how he epitomises the club and it’s supporters.
The exhibition runs until 3rd November and can be found in the Zodiac Gallery, Portsmouth Guildhall. For opening times check out the Guildhall website HERE.
