Castle Road Spring Market & Record Store Day ...

Castle Road Spring Market & Record Store Day 2016

This weekend the southern end of Castle Road will be temporarily closed for vehicles and will be taken over by a host of local traders and great bands for the Castle Road Spring Market & Record Store Day 2016.

Headlining the Saturday music line up will be the awesome Band Of Skulls. Hailing from Southampton the band consists of Matthew Hayward (drums), Russell Marsden (guitar/vocals) and Emma Richardson (bass/vocals). Since their 2009 debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, the trio have gone from strength to strength and toured all over the world as well as having their music featured in hit tv shows, movies and computer games. The band have just announced their fourth album ‘By Default’ which will be released in May, hopefully we’ll be treated a preview during their set.

Also performing on Saturday are Smoke Fairies, Blaenavon, Emptifish, Sacha, Spaff Tits and the awesome Plastic Mermaids.

Originating from the Isle of Wight The Plastic Mermaids have been described by Q Magazine as the band like “Mercury Rev going on a road trip with The Flaming Lips”. I was fortunate enough to see the band perform at Bestival and meet them at Blissfields last year. Not only are they thoroughly nice guys but they are also one the most innovative bands in the country.

My must see act for Sunday will be local band The Boy I Used To Be. Ed Perry, Max Jones and Callum Sanderson will also be joined by the newest member of the team, Andy Hamilton on drums. You can expect to hear tracks from their latest EP Somber Party which is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Joining them on the line up are Left With Pictures, Ellie Ford Band, Felix M-B, Temples Of Youth as well as local bands New Desert Blues, Sink Or Soar and Misgivings.
