Baffled Coffee on Fawcett Road in Southsea

A VISIT TO FAWCETT ROAD’S NEW COFFEE SHOP

Earlier this month new coffee shop, Baffled, Fawcett Road, opened its doors to Southsea. Baffled is the brainchild and dream come true for owner Fergus, who has been in restaurant business for most of his career.

With his extensive restaurant experience and love for good simple food and coffee, he knew he wanted to bring something new and different within the coffee shop industry and Southsea just happened to be the perfect place.

The coffee shop has been in the making for around a year and after searching high and low within the Portsmouth area and finding their much loved Fawcett Road location, the entire build took only 7 weeks. Up until then, the team had been planning and perfecting recipes ready for when the doors opened.

…offer a range of cakes, pastries, snacks and have a variety of chilled food in the grab and go fridge…

Baffled live by the motto “simple things done well” and this truly shines through throughout. As well as a range of speciality coffees, teas and other soft drinks, Baffled offer a range of cakes, pastries, snacks and have a variety of chilled food in the grab and go fridge. With a real emphasis on healthy food, there is something for everyone and all dietary requirements.

What is so wonderful about this place is that all of the food is prepared on site and everything is locally sourced where possible. With their own delicious recipes, the team are up at the crack of dawn preparing food on site and throughout the day ensuring the food is always fresh.

To add to their accolade, Baffled cure and dry their own meats on site. That includes the bacon for the bacon rolls, salt beef for the sandwiches and more. Now, you couldn’t get anymore homemade than that.

The coffee shop has a great location, meaning it is accessible to more Southsea residents and local traders. The prices are very reasonable, reflecting both the homemade produce and the location. Making good simple food.

The interior has been well thought out and expertly designed, using reclaimed materials where possible

The decor is just like the Baffled motto of “simple things done well”. The interior has been well thought out and expertly designed, using reclaimed materials where possible. The colour palette is a mix of grey tones with a pop of orange, bringing some bold personality to the coffee shop. The mounted mirror price boards are quirky and the oversized lamp shades at the counter were quite fun to look at.

There is a generous amount of seating available in both the main seating area and also the snug out the back. If you have children, there is plenty of space and with the owner having a young family himself, children are more than welcome. And with families in mind the tables have been especially lowered enough for young children to be able to enjoy their very own Baffled experience. Dogs are also welcome, with little dog treats available at the main counter.

On my visit I had the pleasure of watching the creation of their homemade orange and buttermilk cake and it was insanely delicious. Freshly prepared in front of me to perfection, I have never enjoyed a cake so good.

Whether Baffled is a short walk or a short drive, it is highly recommended, you come in from the busy street of Fawcett Road into a little coffee shop haven with amazing homemade food and speciality coffees. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a coffee shop and the customer service is excellent too, with every customer treated as if they are the first of the day.
