DISCOVERING THE HARBOURSIDE VILLAGE OF BOSHAM WITH OUR CAMERAS

Bosham has always been a favourite photography location, with the historic village nestled on one of the channels of Chichester Harbour. Over the last 3 years or so we’ve run really successful photography walkshops here for Chichester Harbour Conservancy so earlier this month we were looking on returning with our camera.

The fully booked walkshop started off at the entrance gates to Holy Trinity Church, one of the oldest churches in West Sussex. The long pathway down to the churchyard was perfect for looking at leading lines. Once at the church we explored the churchyard, with its very old gravestones, wild flowers, the weathered wood, stone and metal textures and much more. We looked at focus techniques, layering and macro settings & lenses.

The muggy, close weather and the still & flat harbour waters meant for interesting views out over the channel and reflections of the boats and masts…

We left the churchyard and then looked at the stream with its large trees and rope-swing, looking at colour focusing, negative space and abstraction before crossing the common and heading down to the low tide water’s edge, the quayside and the sailing club sail loft. The muggy, close weather and the still & flat harbour waters meant for interesting views out over the channel and reflections of the boats and masts.

The mudflats were full of interesting old pieces of wood, stones and shellfish. From here we made our way back past the old watermill and on to the wide open mudflats by Shore Road. Then it was time for ice-cream. A huge thank you to everyone who came along!
