Artists’ group Crafts in the Tower are celebrating their fifth birthday this Sunday, the 16th October with their latest event in The Square Tower in Old Portsmouth. Several of the artists involved, including jeweller Katherine Webber, ceramicist Di Wren and fused glass artist Cherie Lubbock have been with the group from the beginning and will be there again for the celebrations this weekend.
Apart from these event veterans there will be two other ceramicists, both with very different work, two painters and two artists in wood. In addition Jim Steele is showing his hand made pens, Kelly Hickman her gilded work and Sue Meredith her prints of Portsmouth scenes. Cecilia Windebank and Judy Charlton work in textiles with interestingly different results. Kendal James will be holding a hama bead workshop on the upper floor: there’s no need to book, just come along.
Crafts in the Tower is a not for profit undertaking: everyone takes part in creating the diverse craft and art event each month and in promoting the exhibitions. The Square Tower is a very audience friendly place, many people come along every month to see what new works are on display and to enjoy Julia’s lovely tearoom.
Crafts in the Tower artists invite everyone to help celebrate their fifth birthday this Sunday, there will be free gifts for the first 20 visitors, live music and a fine array of artworks to enjoy, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and there will be celebratory food and drink in the Vintage Tea Room.
