Winter with The Southsea Alternative Choir

Winter with The Southsea Alternative Choir

By now you should all know about The Southsea Alternative Choir and the great work they have been doing to raise money for some fantastic causes. If you are new to the choir they have evolved somewhat since their inception back in 2010. When they began they were busking around some of Southsea’s finest establishments, such as the RMA Tavern and Little Johnny Russell’s.

After overwhelming support from within the city they have been returning to perform and raise money every Christmas since and have been regulars at various music festivals including Victorious Festival and Bestival.

This weekend the Choir they have entered a team to take part in the Great South Run. Whether there will be any breath left for a sing song during the run remains to be seen however once they have caught their breath they will be taking over Apsley House for a post race celebratory sing-song. This will start from around 2pm. You can expect the usual classics as well as plenty of home-baked goodies on sale to feed hungry runners and supporters.

Their Great South Run team is made up of band members, friends and relatives who are all raising money for the mental health charity Mind. If you would like to support them by donating then you can do just that at https://www.justgiving.com/fundr…/southsea-alternative-choir.

Unlike previous Christmases The Choir will not be taking part in a mini-tour of Southsea pubs, instead, they will be performing a special one-off gig at The Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road. Money raised at this event will go towards children’s charity Cystic Fibrosis Kids – CFK.

My sources tell me that they have a few awesome surprises planned for the crowd!

The gig will take place on Saturday 17th December with tickets priced at a mere £10. You can get your hands on them from www.wedgewood-rooms.co.uk or can be purchased from the venue’s box office on Albert Road. This event WILL sell out so don’t leave it too late in the hope you’ll pick them up at door on the night as you won’t!

If you want to support the boys take on the team behind Victorious Festival in a charity football match then get to Furze Lane football pitches at 3pm. There will be an after party from 6pm at Little Johnny Russells where all are welcome for a post match warm down.
