PORTSMOUTH & SOUTHSEA'S No.1 for ARTS, CULTURE & LIFESTYLE

Don’t Hate, Donate

Don’t Hate Donate are an independent grassroots charity based in Portsmouth. The registered charity have no links to any political or religious groups. Their goal is simple, to provide food, clothing and other essential aid to refugees and those most in need.

The team have already seen locals getting heavily involved and showing their generosity during their ‘Portsmouth to Aleppo’ event outside Portsmouth Guildhall. The event saw over thirty tonnes of aid donated and most of which was shipped off to the most deprived and despairing adults and children who are caught up in the heart of Syria’s civil war.

Trustee and CEO of Don’t Hate Donate Chantelle Burton describes that as well as providing aid they are also seeking to change perceptions, raising awareness and educating about the plight being suffered by may in Europe. She goes on to say “Unitedly we must act and work together to achieve better outcomes for refugees. Aid them with clothing, necessities, food, shelter, love, reassurance, support, peace and hope. This creates and inspires solidarity, which is such a beautiful thing.”

If you would like to get involved and support this fine cause then there are many ways which can you do so. Volunteers are always needed to sort through the donations every Wednesday and Sunday between 10am-9pm at Venture Tower in Fratton. During these times you are also able to drop off any donations that you might be able to spare. The type of items required are not just clothing but blankets, food, nappies, medicine, crutches, wheelchairs, highchairs, cots and toys. You can also donate financially via Just Giving.

On Friday January 27th the organisation has teamed up with Trash Arts for a special event at Drift Bar featuring live music, films and poetry. Currently on the lineup are Mark Lang, Above Bar, Rusty Apper, Naan Breddaz, Omar, Ollie Goodwin and Mollie Scott. This will all be followed by an after party with Southsea Mafia DJs.
