Artist Talk at Aspex ‘The Ministry of Books’

As part of Aspex Gallery‘s continuing #ThirdThursdays programme, they will be hosting a talk by Dr. Maureen O’Neill of The University of Portsmouth on the 19th of January to discuss ‘The Ministry of Books’. On show within the gallery’s Craft Space from this month ‘The Ministry of Books’ is a unique collection of art objects created by artists, and acquired by staff from the BA (Hons) Illustration course where the collection is located. Dr O’Neill will talk about the nature of artist’s books, the background of the collection, and share some of her favourite artworks which have been sourced from across the globe.

The event is open to the public at just £3 per person. Concessionary tickets are available for Aspex Artist Associates, volunteers and students. Please book via the Eventbrite page.

What is #ThirdThursdays?

On the third Thursday of every month the gallery will be open until 8pm, these extended opening hours will give visitors the opportunity to browse the bespoke craft shop, containing unique cards, jewellery, prints and gifts from local artists and makers. On top of this, a range of artist’s talks and after-school activities will be available too. The three gallery spaces will be open to the public, continuing to provide international and local contemporary art to the residents and visitors to Portsmouth.

The gallery’s regular hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm. For information on their events, exhibitions and workshops, please visit the What’s On section of their website:
