SMITH SETS OUT ON A TOUR FOR HIS ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM ‘HEADLONG’

Devon-born singer-songwriter John Smith will be taking over the Talking Heads in Southampton on November 13th. Smith has embarked on a mammoth tour of the UK and Ireland to coincide with his latest album Headlong.

He wrote the record while he was supporting Lianne La Havas and Lisa Hannigan on their respective tours. Many of the tracks are inspired by John’s wife, newborn baby and loss of John’s close friend & collaborator, John Renbourn. The death of the Pentangle legend took a particularly strong toll; “His death really hit me hard” says Smith; “He was so much more to me than someone I’d played with, and who had encouraged me. He was a friend as well, so I wanted to reference him on this album- that’s why I’ve dedicated it to his memory.”

Like many of his generation, John’s musical education came from his father’s collection of record collection which included the likes of Nick Drake, Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler.

Tickets for the show are available for £15 from the venue’s website www.thetalkingheads.co.uk/events/john-smith. This is one for fans of the likes of Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Ray Lamontagne.
