Portsmouth Football Club has just revealed the design of their new club crest. Following a seven-month consultation process where the club met with various supporter groups and the Pompey History Society, as well as publishing two fan surveys, each attracting around 5,000 responses.

The initial designs that were put out for a public vote were all quite varied and most were quite poor in my opinion. The club listened to the fans feedback and released a second round of designs which were slight variations on the most favoured from the previous survey. The two designs were unanimously approved at the last Heritage and Advisory Board meeting last month and both logos will be used from the start of the 2018/19 season

The first crest pictured is inspired by the current design with small amendments in the shape of the shield and the addition of the date that the club was formed. This design will appear primarily on the club’s shirt. The other more detailed design will be used for other merchandising and commercial opportunities.
