Exclusive Interview with Southsea Artist Midge About Her ‘Nothing is Lost’ Exhibition

AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH SOUTHSEA STREET ARTIST AND ILLUSTRATOR MIDGE

On a sunny and not so cold Autumn morning we dropped by Play Dead on Highland Road to catch up with one of Southsea’s best and maybe most modest artists and illustrators: Midge. Our exclusive interview with Southsea artist Midge focuses on Lou’s new exhibition entitled ‘Nothing is Lost’ that opened on Saturday 12th November to a huge turnout.

‘Nothing is Lost’ is Midge’s first solo show, off the back of a busy last few years with work in numerous shows as well as her collaborative exhibition Together in Solitude with My Dog Sighs at The Coastguard Studio a couple of years ago. Throw in the mix murals at Southsea Coffee Co and other spots around the city and runs of prints and more…this exhibition is in essence a culmination of years of creativity and hard work.

…the work is detailed, considered, cohesive and subtle in the delicate play on emotive tones…

Before sitting down to film the interview with Midge (Louise) we checked out the exhibition. The front windows of Play Dead let in the warm late autumn sunlight over a large, autumnal themed display of work, mixed with handmade paper nests filled with painted birds and spray can caps and surrounded by fallen leaves.

The walls and shelves were covered in series of different works, all connecting in to the exhibition’s core theme. Ranging from small painted & framed tags right up to large painted panels, the work is detailed, considered, cohesive and subtle in the delicate play on emotive tones.

‘Nothing is Lost’ Exhibition runs until the end of the year at Play Dead, be sure to head down and check it our, photos do not do the work justice. In only a matter of days much of the work had sold but there are still many excellent pieces available as well as tees (with the artwork from the wall mural) as well as some great stickers and pin badges too. As always Play Dead is home to Samo and crew and a great spot to also book a spot for a tattoo and some of their own tees, etc. To find out more check the following:
